Terroso Kosher Cabernet Sauvignon is a Mevushal-certified Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon at 13% ABV in a 750ml bottle, sourced from the Lontué Valley in Curicó. What distinguishes this bottling is its dual certification — both Kosher and Kosher for Passover — combined with fruit grown at 600 meters above sea level in one of Chile's most temperature-extreme vineyard zones.Quick Facts: ABV: 13% | Origin: Lontué Valley, Curicó Valley, Chile | 100% Cabernet Sauvignon | Producer: Korta Wines / Welner Wines | Mevushal · Kosher for PassoverProduction & HeritageTerroso is produced by Korta Wines under license from Welner Wines, a venture headed by Shimshon Welner. The vineyards sit at approximately 600 meters elevation in the Lontué Valley, where daytime temperatures can reach 30°C before plunging to 10°C at night. This extreme diurnal swing allows the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes to develop concentrated fruit character while retaining crisp natural acidity — a hallmark of high-altitude Chilean viticulture. All grapes undergo the Mevushal process prior to fermentation, meeting strict Kosher certification requirements while preserving varietal expression.Tasting NotesAroma: The nose opens with rich blackcurrant and blackberry, followed by fresh herbs and a subtle layer of vanilla. Deeper inhalation reveals hints of tobacco and warm spice.Taste: Medium-bodied on entry, the palate delivers dark plum and raspberry alongside well-balanced tannins that provide structure without astringency. Mid-palate, notes of date and pepper emerge, supported by gentle oak influence that adds weight without dominating the fruit.Finish: The finish extends at moderate length with lingering dark fruit and a dusting of nutmeg. Tannins resolve smoothly, leaving a clean, slightly spicy close. How to Drink Terroso Cabernet SauvignonServe at 16–18°C for the fullest aromatic expression; a brief rest in the glass after pouring allows the herbal and spice layers to open up. This wine also holds up well in cocktails and mixed drinks. A Cabernet Sangria benefits from the wine's dark fruit and spice backbone. A Kalimotxo (equal parts red wine and cola over ice) plays off the balanced tannins for a casual warm-weather drink. A Red Wine Spritzer with sparkling water and a citrus twist keeps the blackcurrant notes bright and refreshing.Best For Kosher Shabbat and holiday tables where Mevushal certification is required Passover Seder wines that need to be both flavorful and fully certified Everyday weeknight dinners with grilled meats or hearty stews Introducing friends or family to quality Chilean Kosher wine Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Terroso Cabernet Sauvignon taste like? It is a medium-bodied red dominated by dark fruits — blackcurrant, plum, and blackberry — with supporting notes of fresh herbs, vanilla, pepper, and subtle oak. Well-integrated tannins give it structure without heaviness. How does Terroso compare to Baron Herzog Cabernet Sauvignon? Both are widely available Mevushal Kosher Cabernet Sauvignons, but Terroso sources its fruit from Chile's high-altitude Curicó Valley, while Baron Herzog draws from California vineyards. The Chilean origin tends to deliver brighter acidity and a more herbal profile compared to the riper, softer fruit typical of California bottlings. Is Terroso good for Passover? Yes — Terroso carries full Kosher for Passover certification in addition to being Mevushal, making it suitable for Seder use and any occasion where strict Passover compliance is necessary.Where is Terroso made? Terroso is produced in Chile's Lontué Valley, a sub-region within the broader Curicó Valley in the country's Central Valley wine zone. The wine is made by Korta Wines under license from Welner Wines. What foods pair well with Terroso Cabernet Sauvignon? Grilled lamb chops complement the wine's herbaceous and dark fruit character. Beef brisket or short ribs match the balanced tannin structure. Hard aged cheeses like Manchego echo the subtle oak notes. Roasted root vegetables bring out the wine's earthy undertones. Dark chocolate desserts pair naturally with the blackberry and plum core. What sizes does Terroso come in? Terroso Kosher Cabernet Sauvignon is available in the standard 750ml bottle format. Is Terroso worth the price? Terroso positions as an accessible, entry-level Kosher Cabernet Sauvignon, and it delivers genuine varietal character — dark fruit, balanced tannins, and clean structure — at a price point that makes it a practical choice for regular use and holiday tables alike. Why Terroso? The Kosher wine market often forces a choice between certification and flavor; Terroso narrows that gap by sourcing from high-altitude Chilean vineyards where natural growing conditions do much of the heavy lifting. The 600-meter elevation and dramatic 20°C diurnal temperature swings in the Lontué Valley produce fruit with concentrated flavor and retained acidity — qualities that survive the Mevushal process better than grapes from warmer, lower-elevation sites. For consumers who need both Mevushal and Kosher for Passover certification without sacrificing recognizable Cabernet Sauvignon character, this bottling represents a straightforward, well-made option from a credible Chilean source.
