It appreciates hard, clean water, open sand, and a calmer Tanganyikan community. Origin and Habitat Native Region: Lake Tanganyika; Mpimbwe/Cape Mpimbwe form in the aquarium trade. Natural Habitat: Rock-sand transition zones and open areas near structure. Physical Characteristics Size: 5-6 inches. Coloration: Mature males show the strongest color and fin display; females and juveniles are more subdued. Body Shape: Slender Tanganyikan cichlid body with extended ventral fins. Behavior and Temperament Temperament: Mildly aggressive but easily stressed by overly rough tank mates. Social Behavior: Best in a Tanganyikan setup with room for males to display and females to avoid pressure. Aquarium Care Tank Size: A 75 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended.
