Teucrium fruticans is a fast-growing, evergreen shrub prized for its aromatic, silvery-gray foliage and profuse, soft blue to lavender-blue flowers. Native to the Mediterranean and western Asia, this drought-tolerant plant features small, ovate to lance-shaped, gray-green leaves with woolly white undersides, giving the plant a striking silvery appearance. The leaves release a pleasant, herbaceous, slightly resinous scent when brushed. From late spring through summer, and often into early fall, it produces loose clusters of small, two-lipped, tubular flowers in shades of pale blue to lavender-blue, which are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and other pollinators . With its upright, somewhat sprawling habit and excellent tolerance for heat, drought, poor soils, and coastal conditions, it is a superb choice for Mediterranean gardens, dry borders, coastal plantings, low hedges, slopes, and as a colorful accent.
