This Paintspotted Moray (Gymnothorax pictus) was tucked neatly into a crevice, peering out at the changing tide. It was a moment of mutual curiosity that felt like a rare, face-to-face meeting with one of the reef’s most elusive residents. The Composition This photograph captures the "first contact" between the observer and the predator. The focus is sharp on the eel’s eye, while the dappled, "paint-splatter" pattern of its skin provides a stunning organic contrast against the rugged, weathered textures of the limestone reef.
