Maiols "Somm" 2024 | A Cosecha collaboration with Joan d'Anguera. Producer: Cellers Joan d'Anguera (Cosecha private-reserve collaboration)Region: Montsant DO, Darmós, Catalonia, SpainGrape Variety: Garnacha & CariñenaViticulture: Organically farmed, low-intervention The Vibe This one's personal — our own private-reserve cuvée, made hand-in-hand with one of Montsant's great families. "Somm" is the wine we wanted on our own table: an organically farmed, low-intervention blend of Garnacha and Cariñena, the classic Catalan duo, with all the soul of southern Montsant and none of the heaviness you might expect. Easy to love, serious enough to think about, and a steal at the price. The Taste Lifted and almost ethereal for a Montsant red — proof that this corner of Catalonia can do finesse as well as power. It's medium-bodied, fresh, and quietly complex, with strawberry fruit leather and ripe cherry threaded through a savoury, herbal lift. The tannins are fine and gentle, the finish clean and refreshing. A wine that keeps the glass moving. The Story Joan and Josep d'Anguera are the seventh generation to farm their family's land in Darmós, in the southern reaches of Montsant. They're among the names that reinvented this region, coaxing old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena grown on white clay and sand into wines of real lift and transparency. We worked with them on this private-reserve bottling — a sommelier's-eye selection that channels their sense of place into something pure, food-loving, and unmistakably theirs. Best Enjoyed With Serve lightly cool, around 15–16°C. Roasted lamb, pasta puttanesca, grilled vegetables, charcuterie, mushroom dishes, or hard sheep's cheeses. A natural at the dinner table.
