Legend has it, GI's in post WWII Yokosuka, Japan, would bring their bomber jackets into the Toyo Tailor shop for "souvenir" hand embroidery - turning their jackets into something s pecial to bring home. The style caught on and they were soon being made of surplus parachute nylon & silk.
