Where the Majestic series rendered birch forms in naturalistic tones, The Birches assigns each panel a single chromatic identity — red, yellow, blue-violet — against a deep navy ground. The tree form is the same; the colour is pure invention. Heavy impasto knife work gives the branches substantial physical presence, and the paint is built up in ridges that catch light across the surface. The three panels hang with a measured gap between them, the wall itself becoming part of the composition. Spacing is set by the artist at installation.
