A large-scale landscape in which a small bridge leads the eye across the water towards a red-roofed house, surrounded by trees and reflected colour. The whole scene is full of move ment, with loose, expressive strokes of emerald green, sky blue, terracotta and deep water tones giving the painting a bright, joyful energy. Its large-scale gives it great presence on the wall — large enough to anchor a room, but with a lightness so it isn't dominating or over-bearing. Oil on canvas by artist Bengt Ellis (Sweden, 1923-2006), signed lower right and dated 1949. Dimensions 82x90 cm framed. Show more
