The Legend Bushidō (武士道), which translates to "the way of the warrior," is a code of conduct that has shaped the ethical framework of the samurai class in Japan for centuries. At its core, Bushido embodies eight tenets: righteousness, courage, benevolence, respect, honesty, honor, loyalty, and self-control (as defined by Nitobe Inazō). Each tenet not only defines the essence of a samurai’s character but also serves as a guiding philosophy that influences their actions and decisions both on and off the battlefield. These principles are deeply woven into the fabric of Japanese culture, reflecting a commitment to personal integrity and social responsibility that resonates with the values of self-disciplined duty. In modern times, the concept of Bushidō has evolved to represent more than just a historical warrior code; it embodies a way of life that champions personal growth and ethical conduct. Its principles are evident in many areas of modern Japanese life, from the rigorous discipline found in martial arts to the strong work ethic seen in business environments. The enduring influence of Bushido reflects a deep-seated reverence for honor and excellence, illustrating how its ideals continue to inspire and shape contemporary Japanese society. Its legacy serves as a testament to the timeless pursuit of integrity and self-improvement, resonating well beyond the samurai era. The Ring Our BUSHIDŌ 武士道 ring is a masterful fusion of tradition and artistry crafted to honor the noble tenets of Bushido. Forged from traditional folded Japanese steel, its unique design embodies the timeless values of each of the eight tenants of the warrior code. The ring features eight meticulously engraved sides, each bearing the kanji of one of the tenets of Bushido. From start to finish, they are: Righteousness (義, gi)Be acutely honest throughout your dealings with all people. Believe in justice, not from other people, but from yourself. To the true warrior, all points of view are deeply considered regarding honesty, justice and integrity. Warriors make a full commitment to their decisions. Heroic Courage (勇, yū)Hiding like a turtle in a shell is not living at all. A true warrior must have heroic courage. It is absolutely risky. It is living life completely, fully and wonderfully. Heroic courage is not blind. It is intelligent and strong. Benevolence, Compassion (仁, jin)Through intense training and hard work the true warrior becomes quick and strong. They are not as most people. They develop a power that must be used for good. They have compassion. They help their fellow men at every opportunity. If an opportunity does not arise, they go out of their way to find one. Respect (礼, rei)True warriors have no reason to be cruel. They do not need to prove their strength. Warriors are not only respected for their strength in battle, but also by their dealings with others. The true strength of a warrior becomes apparent during difficult times. Honesty (誠, makoto)When warriors say that they will perform an action, it is as good as done. Nothing will stop them from completing what they say they will do. They do not have to 'give their word'. They do not have to 'promise'. Speaking and doing are the same action. Honour (名誉, meiyo)Warriors have only one judge of honor and character, and this is themselves. Decisions they make and how these decisions are carried out are a reflection of who they truly are. You cannot hide from yourself. Duty and Loyalty (忠義, chūgi)Warriors are responsible for everything that they have done and everything that they have said and all of the consequences that follow. They are immensely loyal to all of those in their care. To everyone that they are responsible for, they remain fiercely true. Self-Control (自制, jisei) Warriors are to develop a good character and strong control over their emotions. They must choose to live their lives as per strict moral standards. Understand what is right and what is wrong, and what is the difference between good and bad. The contrast present in the layers of the folded steel used ensures a striking texture and unmatched durability, making each ring a unique testament to both historical and artistic heritage. The BUSHIDŌ is not merely an accessory, but also a profound symbol of integrity and strength. Its balanced design provides both comfort and elegance, making it a meaningful addition to any collection. Whether worn as a personal emblem or given as a cherished gift, this ring stands as a powerful reminder of the enduring virtues that have shaped Japanese culture. Safety As the smith does not mix chromium into the metal, your BUSHIDŌ ring should be kept away from water. We have applied a layer of lacquer to give the ring a measure of water resistance, but it is always better to be safe than sorry! Stainless Option If you so choose, you can request for the smith to add chromium into the steel he hand-crafts for your accessory (which will give it the stainless quality) for an added cost. Please note that the addition of chromium will cause the finish of the ring to appear shinier in appearance as opposed to the non-stainless variant. It is highly recommended that you select the stainless option if you tend to have sweaty fingers, as sweat will potentially cause oxidization on the inner metal. For non-stainless variants, oxidization (if it occurs) can be managed with the use of a carbon steel eraser.
