With 45,00,000 runners and a record-friendly fast and flat course, the Chicago marathon has been run since 1977 and is now the fourth largest in the world. Starting and finishing at Grant Park on the shores of Lake Michigan, the route takes in 29 of the city's neighbourhoods, past many of the iconic buildings that define Chicago's famous skyline, and comes close to the four major sporting areas of the Cubs, Bulls, White Sox and Bears. Held annually in the first week of October, the Chicago Marathon is quickly rising and becoming a favourite of elite, amateur and charity-runners alike. - **Please note that this is an Archive design from an older running of the event.
