Avis de’ Bardi has always had others to tell her what to do, how to dress, and how to act. She’s a rebellious spirit who has only grown more critical with age. On the night of her 28th birthday, she flees home in an attempt to take back control of her life and not be married off to a man twice her age. However, this momentary relief of freedom subsides when she becomes a nun and is forced into a life of piety and seclusion, assuming the new identity of Sister Mary Catherine. Our dutiful and God-fearing nun, now semi-content with how her life has turned out, is suddenly plagued by visions of a dark, goat-like beast. A beast who only seeks affection and to douse her in sensual satisfaction. Will the Devil succeed in winning Avis’ heart or will they only push Sister Mary Catherine further into seclusion?
