A duet of horror, love, and connection. The Devil’s Lounge is a 2-player Role Playing Game where one player, The User, enters into a dangerous contract with an- other player, The Devil. The User is willing to pay a price for what they seek. The Devil enjoys toying with desires, promises, and consequences. If you are The Devil, you are the dealer of this game. You handle most of the cards and are expected to know the rules and the process. You control The Lounge and influence aspects from the shadows. You are not the centerpiece, but the environment of this tale. If you are The User, you are the central protagonist of the story. You will be dealt cards that you must contend with, and navigate The Lounge as best you can. You hold the strongest control of this protagonist, although The Devil may always pull a heartstring or two. The game is split into two main phases, with a very short setup and finale: 1. Setup: Safety tool discussion, and physical card layout. 2. World-building: Establishing the characteristics of The Lounge, The User, The Devil, and The Price. This phase shouldn't last much longer than 20 to 30 minutes, unless desired. 3. Making Matches: The second phase cycles through attempted matches in an exploration of The Lounge. This phase ends either when The User declares it, or when the end is forced by the cards. This can take anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours, or more if desired. 4. Finale: The Devil tallies and the true costs come due. This game is born of experiences navigating dating and hookup apps in our digital era such as Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, Sniffies, etc. It is a story of self-transformation, about the monster you are becoming. It features potential themes of horror, sex, gore, romance and violence. Initially inspired by the Crafted in a Shell SRD by Innocent Goblin, with strong mechanical inspiration from Bound by K-Ramstack and Wickedness by M Veselak, as well as the Mortal Moves found in GODKILLER: First Blood Edition by Connie Chang.
