'The Diving Pool' by artist Lesley Herd. Medium: Mixed media Dimensions: 80cm x 60cm The Diving Pool was painted intuitively using a variety of media including inks, water-soluble crayons, acrylics, charcoal and graphite and does not necessarily reflect any place in particular. The inspiration for the piece was gathered from several experiences the artist had had of wild swimming in various locations in Scotland, but brings to mind a summer afternoon in her childhood where her family took a picnic to a spot on the River Stinchar (possibly) where they spent a happy afternoon diving from rocks into the pool below a series of waterfalls. The feeling of freedom from restrictions of a swimming pool, the sun and dappled shade of the tree-lined banks and the intense cold of the water as they played in the river have fostered a deep love of swimming outdoors throughout the artist's life.
