Escabel Stool Kit A woodworking kit for ages 7–12 The Escabel Stool is Arco’s first woodworking kit, designed specifically for young makers aged 7–12. It introduces children to real materials and real tools, at a pace that encourages care, focus, and pride in the outcome. The aim is not speed or decoration, but learning how things are made — and making something that genuinely lasts. The project is challenging enough to feel significant, without becoming overwhelming. It rewards patience and attention, and builds confidence through doing. Children will learn to clamp, saw, sand, assemble, and finish the stool themselves. Every stage is clearly explained in the Arco Workbook, which has been written to support independence while encouraging thoughtful, supervised making. The stool is primarily made from furniture-grade birch plywood — a strong, stable, and durable material used by professional furniture makers. This ensures the finished stool is robust, functional, and suitable for everyday use. All components arrive held within birch ply surrounds and released via tabs. This keeps everything protected in transit and helps young makers understand material care from the very beginning. The result is a well-made object, built properly, by hand.
