Item Name: The Flow Magazine (Fall 2014) SKU: FLOW-FALL-2014 Description: The Flow Magazine (Fall 2014) is a print magazine issue focused on flameworking and lampworking, with an editorial theme centered on collaborative glasswork and tips for success through teamwork. This issue includes four full-color tutorials from contributing artists. The tutorials published in the Fall 2014 issue that are listed on The Flow Magazine website include: Takoda Madrona, The Tarantula, a sculptural build that forms a tarantula body from clear tubing rolled in frit and shaped into a bulbous form, with legs made from 8 mm rod and finished using tools such as pliers and a graphite paddle; Salt, The Great American Hot Dog, demonstrating the Sculpturally Applied Linear Tunnel technique using a hot-dog-and-bun sculpture, including blending Lobster and Cotton Candy Borosticks for the hot dog color and adding realistic shading to the bun and condiments using powders, rods, and frits; William Menzies, Tungsten Bails and Double Bridges, demonstrating how to create a traditional jewelry bail using a tungsten pick and then using permanent double bridges to produce more complex jewelry forms, including adding a horn shape to balance the finished pendant. How it is used: Follow Takoda Madrona’s tarantula tutorial to practice building a hollow sculptural body from clear tubing, adding frit for color and texture, then attaching and shaping multiple legs from 8 mm rod while refining the form with hand tools Use Salt’s hot dog tutorial to learn the Sculpturally Applied Linear Tunnel technique, including blending colored rod for a natural base tone and building up realistic surface color and shading with powders, rods, and frits Work through William Menzies’ bail tutorial to improve pendant construction by pulling and shaping a clean bail with a tungsten pick, then adding double bridges to create stable connection points for more complex wearable designs
