Item Name: The Flow Magazine Spring 2017 SKU: FLOW-SPRING-2017 Description: The Flow Magazine Spring 2017 is a printed, full-color magazine for flameworkers and lampworkers that centers on nature as a design source and skill-building theme. This issue highlights a gallery featuring the work of 40 flameworking artists with designs that include floral, sea life, animal, mythological, and geometric themes across beadwork and sculptural glass. It also includes feature articles on emerging artist Morgan Rodriguez and her nautilus shells, Bonnie Scott’s traveling studio and teaching work, Jonathan Michael Davis’ fire-breathing glass art, and coverage of events including The Michigan Glass Project and Pipe Classic XI flame offs. In addition to the features and gallery, the Spring 2017 issue includes tutorials that can be followed as project guides, including Tornado Beads by Sue Angell and Sculptural Sunflower Beads by Kim Fields. How it is used: Use Sue Angell’s Tornado Beads tutorial to practice building a cylindrical base bead, rolling frit for layered color, and wrapping clear coils to fill out the final bead shape while keeping the surface controlled and even. Follow Kim Fields’ Sculptural Sunflower Bead tutorial to build dimensional floral beads by stacking multiple petal layers, shaping petals cleanly, and setting them at realistic angles for a more lifelike form. Study the gallery of 40 artists to develop new nature-driven design ideas you can translate into your own beadwork and sculptural pieces, especially for seasonal collections and show work. Use the feature articles and event coverage to stay current on artists, techniques, and trends in the flameworking community, which can help guide what you practice next and what styles are gaining momentum.
