This low, wide form recalls traditional gathering baskets used for collecting mushrooms, herbs, and field plants. The open structure allows freshly cut materials to rest without compression, preserving their natural form during transport. Its shape encourages a slower method of gathering—placing each stem intentionally rather than accumulating them unseen. Developed by Underwater Weaving Studio, this basket reflects a contemporary continuation of an ancient craft. Each one is made by hand in Maine using mature rattan, shaped through traditional weaving techniques that emphasize strength, flexibility, and longevity.
