Wood carries time inside it, and sometimes it carries a secret too. The Grain Keeps a Secret follows the slow rivers of a tree's growth as they part and curve around a single dark knot, the one place the wood remembers a wound. Under a single hard light from above, the grain rises out of a black so deep it feels like night itself, and the knot sits at the centre like a held breath.A knot in wood is not damage in the way we usually mean it. It is a record, the place where a branch once grew, where the tree quietly rebuilt its whole structure around something it could not remove. The rivers of grain do not hide that point, they organise themselves around it, and in doing so turn a flaw into the very thing that gives the piece its form.
