Founded by former fashion-industry buyer Reina Ovinge, The Knitwit Stable is a Dutch knitwear brand and on-farm production facility in the village of Baambrugge. After two decades inside the conventional supply chain, Ovinge built her own alternative: a working farm, a knitting studio with seventeen machines, and a knowledge centre dedicated to revitalising the Dutch wool industry. The Knitwit Stable produces sweaters, cardigans, shawls, hats and accessories from the wool of the farm's own merino sheep and angora goats, supplemented by sheep, alpaca and mohair wool from Dutch breeders the brand visits in person. Production runs in small batches and on demand, which means no surplus stock and no waste. What distinguishes The Knitwit Stable in the merino knitwear category is the radical traceability of its supply chain, from soil and animal through to finished garment. Pricing is published transparently, repairs are offered for damaged pieces, and the brand shares its knowledge through masterclasses for designers, students and businesses. Beyond its label, the brand also functions as an education centre and a consultancy on local wool production.
