'The Long Wait' is an original hand-cut stencil and aerosol painting by Melbourne artist Geoff Cunningham. Set outside the former United Kingdom Hotel, now better known to many Mel burnians as the Clifton Hill McDonald’s, the work captures a familiar 1970s suburban moment: a boy and dog waiting in the back of the family station wagon while the adults are somewhere inside. A Big M carton sits beside him - a small bribe for his patience! Warm brickwork, vintage cars and long shadows give the painting a nostalgic Australian feel, while the quiet humour of the waiting child and dog adds a slightly bittersweet edge.
