When he saw me, he sighed and started clapping lightly. “Glad you could finally make it,” he said. “I’ve been here for half an hour waiting for you.” I forced a smile to my lips and then reached behind me to pull my hair from my face and into a ponytail. “I didn’t have a job half an hour ago, so you only have yourself to blame for your wasted time,” I said. “What have you done so far?” He closed his eyes and started to open his mouth but then seemed to think better of it. “As your partner,” he said, after a pause, “I thought it’d be best to wait for you before doing anything.
