Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts together for the first time. Directed by Gore Verbinski (before he went on to direct the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise), the film followed a hapless bagman (Pitt) sent to Mexico to retrieve an antique pistol with a cursed history, while his girlfriend (Roberts) gets kidnapped by a hitman (James Gandolfini, in a role that showed his range beyond Tony Soprano). The pairing of Pitt and Roberts was a massive event. They were arguably the two biggest stars on the planet at the time.
