Ram was the father of Amminadab, the father of Nahshon, who was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab. Boaz was the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth. Obed was the father of Jesse, who fathered King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother was Bathsheba, the widow of Uriah. Solomon was the father of Rehoboam, who fathered Abijah. Abijah fathered Asa, who was the father of Jehoshaphat. Jehoshaphat fathered Uzziah, who was the father of Jotham, the father of Ahaz. Ahaz was the father of Hezekiah, the father of Manasseh. Manasseh fathered Josiah, who was the father of Jehoiachin and his brothers, born during the time of exile to Babylon. After the exile, Jehoiachin fathered Shealtiel, who fathered Zerubbabel. Zerubbabel was the father Abiud, who fathered Eliakim. Eliakim was the father of Azor, who fathered Zadok. Zadok was the father of Akim, who fathered Eliud. Eliud was the father of Eleazar, who was the father of Matthan. Matthan fathered Jacob, the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Mary gave birth to Jesus, who was called the Messiah.1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.This is the geology of Christ including fourteen generations, from Abraham to David, and from David to the Babylonian exile.1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. The birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: Mary, engaged to Joseph, became with child from the Holy Ghost, prior to being with her husband.1:19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.In response, Joseph sought to hide Mary’s condition by sending her away.1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.While contemplating her removal, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for her child is of the Holy Ghost.1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.She will bring forth a son and his name is to be Jesus, and he will save his people from their sins.”1:22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.Now all of this was done in order to fulfill prophecy, as the Lord revealed through a prophet the virgin birth of Emmanuel, which means God is with us.1:24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 1:25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.After wards, Joseph did as the angel had told him and took Mary as his wife. He did not lay with her until she gave birth to their firstborn son, whom they named, Jesus.Chapter 22:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea, in the days of King Herod, wise men came from the east to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is the child called the King of Jews, for we have seen his star in the east and have come to worship him?”2:3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.When Herod heard this he was troubled, and Jerusalem shared his distress.2:4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.So, he gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, demanding of them to determine where the Christ would be born.2:5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet, 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.They told him Bethlehem, as it was written by the prophet, “Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, is not the least among the princes of Judah, for out of her will come a Governor that will rule the people of Israel.2:7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.Then, Herod asked the wise men when the star appeared.2:8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search for the child, and when you find him, bring me word, so that I may come and worship him also.”2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.After departing from the king, the star which they saw in the east led them to where the young child lay.2:10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.And, they rejoiced with great happiness.2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.When they came into the house, they saw the young child with his mother, Mary, and fell down in worship. They presented him with presents of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.2:12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.They left the scene and returned to their homeland, avoiding Herod, as warned by God in a dream.2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.2:14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.After they left, Joseph received a dream from the angel of the Lord, telling him to flee with his family to Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod, in accordance with the prophet who said, “Out of Egypt, I have called my son.2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.2:17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, 2:18 In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.When Herod realized he had been deceived, he ordered the death of all the children in Bethlehem from two years old and under, fulfilling the words spoken by the prophet, Jeremy, “In Rama, there was a voice lamenting and weeping for her children, which could not be comforted.2:19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 2:20 Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in Egypt, saying, “Arise, and take your child and wife to the land of Israel, for those who sought Him harm is dead.”2:21 And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.2:22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.So, Joseph took his family to Israel, but only went as far as Nazareth after hearing that the Archelaus reigned in his father’s place.
