Made with fewer parts and materials, the Base Camp Mule was designed so that consumers can return it when they're done with it. It will be disassembled and the components recycled. Machine agitation can damage the molded EVA footbed, deform the spandex-containing heel mesh, and stress the seams of the 100% recycled P.E.T. mesh upper. Remove the molded EVA footbed before cleaning and wash the footbed separately. Rinse thoroughly and squeeze (don't twist) water from the mesh upper. Drying Air dry at room temperature away from direct heat and sunlight. Remove the footbed and let the upper dry separately. Stuff the upper with paper towels or a dry towel to help the recycled P.E.T. mesh hold its shape while drying. Don't use a clothes dryer or place near radiators or hot car interiors — heat warps the molded EVA footbed and degrades the spandex component of the heel mesh. Recycled P.E.T. Mesh Upper The 100% recycled P.E.T. mesh across the top of the foot breathes well but can trap dust and lint in the open weave — a soft brush removes surface debris without damaging the fibers. The mesh is durable for indoor and casual outdoor use, but the open weave can snag on sharp branches, thorns, or rough Velcro® — keep the mule away from abrasive surfaces when wearing it outdoors. Polyester-Spandex Heel Mesh The 50% recycled polyester-spandex spacer mesh on the heel gives the collapsible-heel function its stretch. Spandex is heat-sensitive — high-temperature washing or any direct heat degrades the elastic. Wash cool + air dry only. If the heel mesh loses its stretch-recovery over years of use, it's a wear sign, not a defect. Collapsible Heel The collapsible heel can be worn up for light support or folded down for slip-on ease. Don't force the heel to fold if it sits naturally up — the spacer mesh design allows for either position by feel. Creases from the fold-down position are normal and not defects; they relax when the heel is worn up. If the heel collar stays creased when worn up, the spacer mesh may have lost some rebound — check TNF's repair service under the limited lifetime guarantee. Removable EVA Footbed The molded EVA footbed with 30% recycled EVA is fully removable — pull it out to air-dry after each wear, to clean separately, or to swap in custom orthotics. The raised texture on the footbed prevents foot slippage but accumulates lint and skin cells over time; scrub with a soft brush and mild soap periodically. EVA breaks down with heat — high-temperature drying can warp the footbed permanently. Translucent Rubber Outsole The translucent rubber outsole uses 2 mm lugs for outdoor capability — clear/translucent rubber shows dirt more readily than opaque rubber. Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap after each outdoor wear to keep the outsole looking new. Don't use solvents on the translucent outsole, which can cloud or yellow the rubber. 2 mm Lugs The 2 mm lugs are designed for occasional outdoor use (patios, decks, light grass) — not heavy trail use. For deep mud or technical terrain, the lugs are too short to provide meaningful traction. After outdoor wear, brush out mud and debris from the lugs with a stiff brush. Circular Design End-of-Life This is TNF's first Circular Design shoe — assembled with fewer parts and materials specifically so consumers can return it to TNF when worn out for disassembly and recycling into raw materials for a second-generation product. Follow TNF's take-back program instructions rather than discarding the mules. Don't attempt to disassemble the mules yourself to recover components. Unisex Sizing & Fit This unisex style uses men's sizing — women should use the size guide to find their women's sizing conversion. The collapsible heel accommodates a slightly wider range of foot shapes than a fixed-heel mule. If the footbed feels tight or loose after the conversion, swap in a thicker sock or wear the heel up rather than folded down. Storage Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UV exposure fades the upper mesh and degrades the spandex component of the heel mesh over time.
