Paul Newman stars as Andrew Craig, an irreverent, hard-drinking American novelist who travels to Stockholm to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature and becomes suspicious when a fellow laureate appears to have been replaced by an impostor. Elke Sommer and Edward G. Robinson co-star. Blending espionage, romance and sophisticated comedy, the film has often been compared with the international thrillers of Alfred Hitchcock.
