This is 'The Special Edition Mammoth.' The previous iteration of ‘The Special Edition Mammoth’ will go down in history as the product that broke our site (temporarily). Our ‘First Edition Special Edition' was limited to 10 pieces and woven via foot treadle loom by the legend herself, Sam Goates, of ‘Woven in The Bone,’ a bona fide legend in the world of woolen weaving. Sam’s cloth is hyper-limited, sought out by the finest tailors around the world, and the epitome of the craft itself. Sam is an incredible fabric designer, an aficionado in all things wool, and, as we like to say at Snail HQ: she is your favorite weaver’s favorite weaver. It’s beyond an honor to work with Sam’s cloth, never mind Sam in general. However, since Special Edition V1 went a bit bananas and since we love working together, Sam and I have decided to partner up. With that, we’d like to introduce you to our first release of The ‘Sam Goates x Iron Snail’ partnership. Our site crashed on the first sale, and we accidentally let ~100 of you order instead of the planned 10. Since it would take years for Sam to personally make that much cloth herself and many (many) of you reached out and told us the Special Edition was a gift for a spouse or to celebrate the birth of your child, a wedding, and so on and so forth, Sam and I found it necessary to figure out a solution. Luckily, one of us (Sam), just happens to be very well-connected. She worked closely and carefully with a local mill to recreate our cloth on a larger scale and zipped it into production. Note One: Special Edition V1 was sold at a loss by us. V2 is being sold significantly below a sustainable business margin. Our Special Editions are made to support legends of the craft, allow us to experiment, and to learn things we normally never would. Beyond that, Sam and us partnered up to create two official Iron Snail tartan linings, registered officially via The Scottish Register of Tartans. We found it most necessary to go far beyond the grade. The result, of course, is the Special Edition V2. Custom horn buttons, a rich and textured British wool yarn that Sam and I have internally been calling “tobacco,” our very own tartan, Shaniko (the most sustainable wool in the USA) merino wool storm cuffs, and a host of other features. Far more information can be found below. Michael is 5'9" and 150 lbs, wearing a size Medium. He could also wear a size small for a sleeker look and be comfortable. The medium allows heavier layering. Note Two: The Special Edition cloth uses larger yarns and a looser weave than our standard offerings. While it is fierce in the face of storms, maximum element protection can be found via our standard offerings.
