Artist Statement about the piece: "The idea for this painting had been in my sketchbook for 12 years and I originally imagined the subject as a reclining figure (odalisque) in a similar setting. When I came to do the painting 6 months ago I decided to elevate the figure to a position of protector and give it a regal sensibility. In order to get the pose right I collaged a photo of the head with another image of the body and when sketching it up it began to appear lion-like which fitted with my idea of a regal element. This reminded me of my trip to Giza, Egypt where the ancient builders had combined the pharaoh Kafre’s head and the body of a lion to create the Sphinx as a deity. For the painting, I wanted the bear to be a solemn beauty and for viewers to offer respect and veneration for her and the nature that she is protecting." ~ Robert Bissell Certified Art Giclée on Canvas Limited Editions: Mini - 11 x 16.5" - Limited-Edition of 100Medium - 24 x 36" - Edition of 75Large - 32 x 48" - Edition of 50 *FRAMING: Framing elevates the presentation of a canvas giclée, adding a touch of sophistication and enhancing its overall appeal allowing for additional customization to complement the artwork and suit various interior styles.
