The concept of a housing block dates back to pre-war France. Part architectural manifesto, part political statement, housing blocks were designed to meet every basic human need and provide space for much-needed socialising. Communal laundries, playgrounds, gardens, sports fields, and meeting halls were as integral to the block as access to services, schools, health centers, and public transport.
