The Tenth Lieutenant is a true account of a chance meeting with the last surviving bodyguard of Malcolm X. This meeting engendered the concept of this book based on a brief look at MalcolmÕs religious life and the culmination of its evolution up to the point of his assassination. It imagines two possible extrapolations of MalcolmÕs end-of-life trajectory, and presents them as the two most likely trajectories MalcolmÕs life may have taken had he lived: one tracible from his discernable intentions at the time of his assassination; the other extrapolated from just before his assassination to what presented evidence shows may have been had he continued on that trajectory. This perspective is written from the writerÕs point of view as an adherent and devotee of Sufism. It provides opportunity for introduction of the Sufi path to the reader and introduction of the uninitiated to the guaranteed protected way to true enlightenment which Malcolm X sought and the path to which his last surviving bodyguard ultimately found. It also provides opportunity for reintroduction of a spiritual science to an audience for whom and a time in which it has been too long lost. Neither would be possible without examination of facets of related history. Brief forays into past events are used to throw revealing light on recorded events, to inform the present, and to provide hope for the future.
