Join “The Works,” our teen group at Brooklyn Apple Academy for ages 12–18, where students dive deep into how New York City functions through a project-based, self-directed class exploring big questions like “How the heck does this thing work?” Each year, the group selects three topics from areas such as social infrastructure, culture, energy, food systems, sanitation, communication, housing, transportation, immigration, and urban spaces, then creates unique projects ranging from academic papers and journalism to graphic novels, rock operas, or physical models. Every Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM, students visit sites, experts, exhibitions, elected officials, and community leaders, with time afterward for field games and socializing. Led by Noah Mayers, founder of Brooklyn Apple Academy and veteran of over 600 NYC field trips, this engaging class meets at the Brooklyn Public Library Pacific Branch.
