Behind the Art What’s a view that’s taken your breath away? In January, four friends and I spontaneously booked a trip to Whitehorse, Yukon. Yes it was -30 degrees, yes there was o nly 5 hours of sunlight, and yes it was stunning. Each morning we would leave before the sun was up and drive, experiencing the sunrise on our way. We would always have a glorious destination, but to be honest, the views from our rental car were some of my favorites. My painting process always begins with an orange underpainting. Here I decided to leave much of the base layer exposed to simulate the stunning glow of the mountains in the morning light. As for the road, black is boring. I’m obsessed with the way the indigo reflections bring the movement of the moment to life. It’s like you’re in the passenger seat. 15x30in | Oil on canvas Show more
