Drawing in my sketchbook a view above Bonnieux at 7 am, I was capturing the groundwork of emerging and receding provencial forms, while noting colors and values as I would mix them. Back in my studio, I translated the drawn map onto a large-scale format, from which the painting process unfolds with drips and soft pencil lines.
