In the last 30 years, creative disciplines such as art, design, architecture, creative writing, fashion, and others have seen a “research turn”, stimulated by programmes to deepen artists’ reflections on the roots, relevance, and urgencies of their work. The rise of practice-based research is transforming these disciplines. However, the integration of research into artistic practice has not always been smooth, the transformations not unequivocally positive.
