He was President of the Christian Union from 1970-71, obtained a PhD in Analytical Chemistry in 1976, and worshipped at Alfred Place Baptist Church under the ministry of Pastor Geoff Thomas. He is married to Eileen, a graduate in Welsh, and they have two grown-up children, also believers, and three grandchildren.
