Three Papago Tohono O'odham Baskets. Early 21st Century. Bowl 10” x 2 ½” with Herd Museum shop tag. Bowl by Clarence Jones 6” x 2 ¼”. Bowl 9 ½” x 2”. Early 20th Century. Papago bas kets are handcrafted of beargrass, yucca cactus (white or green) and Devil’s Claw (black). The technique used is known as coiling. Split stitch baskets are made of beargrass and sewn with yucca in such a manner that the coil is exposed to form part of the pattern.
