Threshing boards were used for centuries in farming communities to separate grain from chaff. Usually someone sat on the board while a horse, mule, or ox was roped to the metal rin g or hook at the front. Stalks of grain were placed on the ground or threshing floor and the animal pulled the board over the stalk. The sharp metal blades on the bottom of the board separated the grain from the chaff.
