With around 150 species found in Britain, some thrips cause noticeable damage including dull green leaves that develop silvery-white discolouration marked with tiny black excrement spots, distorted growth at shoot tips and flower buds, and white flecking on petals from pigment loss.Adult thrips are narrow-bodied, up to 2mm in length, with two pairs of strap-like wings fringed with hairs that fold back over their bodies at rest. The immature nymph stages are wingless, generally creamy yellow, and paler than adults.
