There are over 350 species of thyme, and Benchmark brings four of them together in one bottle. The aromatherapist Maggie Tisserand developed this blend, and she treats the four as her own formula. She has said that common thyme is one of them. What the blending achieves shows up clearly in the gas chromatography. Thymol, the phenol that thyme is best known for, sits alongside linalool, the soft floral molecule you may recognize from lavender, and terpinen-4-ol, which you may know from tea tree. A single thyme usually offers one of these in quantity. Benchmark offers all three at once. The aroma is warm and herbal, with spicy and camphor-like notes.
