A creeping, dense, woody-based perennial, 'Elfin' makes a pretty and tough ground cover. Though thyme has been an integral part of the cuisines from whence it comes — Europe, Weste rn Asia, and North Africa — this one is not the culinary thyme, Thymus vulgaris. Stems are clad with tiny, glossy green leaves, variably aromatic according to conditions, and it is evergreen. Very cold-tolerant.
