Sourced in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, France Exceptionally large and beautifully preserved, this mustard-glazed Provençal tian is one of those pieces that stops you in your tracks. With its rich golden glaze and generous scale, it feels just as sculptural today as it was practical centuries ago. Hand-sourced in the south of France, this tian spent decades in Henri Auer's atelier in Nice, where it was used to candy fruit by hand—one sugary bath at a time. You'll see attached in the photos, a postcard given to us sharing a bit of their incredible history. Originally, tians were everyday workhorses found in French kitchens throughout the 1700s to early 1900s, used for everything from preparing vegetables to collecting cream and rendering fat for confit.
