The colored band represents the water, where it is narrow-the tide is low. Where it is wide-the tide is high . Our tide clock mechanisms are calibrated to predict most tides that are semi-diurnal, and follow lunar time with 2 highs and 2 lows in a 24-hour 50 minute period. Will work with other tides with slight daily adjustments, as needed. Comes with instruction card. Imperfections are naturally occurring with any firing, and can vary from item to item. Some of the common ones are listed below- but not limited to: *pepper flake size/color iron inclusion on the face of the tide clock that occurs naturally in porcelain. Typically on the main circle. * small hairline crack on the back of the tide clock tile. Structural integrity not affected. * Small blue, pink or purple glaze spot the size of a pepper flake on the face of the tide clock.
