Tillandsia juncea is part of the Bromeliaceae family and its native range is Mexico to Tropical America. These epiphytic plants are often called ‘Air Plants’ due to their minimal root structure and their ability to take nutrients from the air around them. This Tillandsia has a grassy appearance, it can reach up to 50cm in length. Tillandsia are covered in trichomes which absorb moisture from the air, in its natural environment, it would live on a host tree, absorbing nutrients from decaying matter and water from axils. Approximately 20cm in length. Light: This Tillandsia appreciates periods of full sun. You should grow it in a place that receives bright, filtered sunlight during the day. Be careful to not over-expose to light, as direct, intense light can cause the plant to develop burn marks. Water: Soak Tillandsia in a bowl of tepid water once a week, alternatively you could mist it 2-3 times a week. After watering, gently shake excess water off so that no water remains trapped between the leaves. Good air circulation is important for Tillandsia. Fertilising: Feed sparingly during the growing season, every other watering. You can dilute fertiliser to half the recommended amount but never add more. Temperature: 10-32˚C. Humidity: Moderate humidity, 60%. Tillandsia are non-toxic.
