The timing chain damper is a rubber-backed tensioning component mounted within the timing belt cover area, designed to reduce vibration and suppress harmonic oscillation in the timing chain on Land Rover's 2.25 and 2.5 petrol four-cylinder engines, as well as the 2.6 six-cylinder unit. It prevents chain slap against the cover, which if left unchecked causes accelerated chain wear, timing inaccuracy, and characteristic rattling on cold start. Replacing a worn or deteriorated damper is essential to maintaining correct valve timing and preventing more costly chain and sprocket damage. Key Features Rubber-faced damper pad designed to absorb timing chain vibration and reduce chain-to-cover contact Direct replacement component - no modification required for installation within the timing belt cover assembly Manufactured to OEM specification for compatibility with Land Rover 2.25 Petrol, 2.5 Petrol, and 2.6 six-cylinder engines Inspect and replace alongside timing chain, tensioner, and guides when carrying out a full timing service Vehicle Fitment Fits Land Rover Defender (1986–2006) with 2.25 and 2.5 Petrol engines, and Series 2, 2A, and Series 3 with 2.0 Diesel, 2.25 Petrol, and 2.6 six-cylinder Petrol engines.
