Timothy Grass | Phleum pratense Known as Timothy grass, herd’s grass or meadow cat’s tail. Timothy grass is a tall, robust, perennial grass which is a faded grey-green in colour an d grows to over a metre in height. This species grows naturally across most of the UK, where its long, cylindrical flowers can be seen between June and August. It is a very palatable grass variety and is included widely in mixtures for grazing and hay production. Drought-resistant, it copes well with sandy or heavy soils, and grows abundantly on heavy ground. It is very winter hardy, disease-free, and can be combined with long-term perennial ryegrass to extend the life of a mixture and provide late-season growth.
