The Tinian is a marble and oak coffee table, a low round table where a warm, dark stone leads and a solid oak base grounds it. It pairs two materials that warm to each other rather than compete. The stone is Emperador Dark, a warm brown Spanish marble crossed by fine white-and-cream veining, deeper in colour than the paler marbles. Beneath it, oak smoked to a near-black brown, the grain still legible under the finish, so the marble and oak read as two tones of a single warmth. Each top is cut from its own block, so no two of these marble and oak coffee tables are quite alike. Underneath, a solid oak base carries the weight. Two boards are set perpendicular and slotted one through the other into an interlocking cross-leg structure, the join left in full view as the piece's single gesture of craft. Quiet and low, the marble and oak coffee table settles a living room rather than filling it, at ease in the kind of composed interior it was made for.
