Trilobites are an extinct species of marine arthropods that lived abundantly during the Paleozoic era.. Trilobites died out approximately 251 million years ago in a Permian mass ex tinction event. The event effectively ended approximately 90% of all species on Earth, including the trilobites. Trilobites were a successful early animal, largely due to the hard exoskeleton, which created an excellent fossil record. Today, trilobite fossils can be found all over the world.
