Valentine was a Roman priest around the year 300, during a time when Christianity was outlawed. Legend has it that Valentine secretly performed Christian weddings in defiance of th e law. For that, he was arrested, beaten and sentenced to death. While in prison, Valentine healed the jailer's daughter from blindness.
