•first 2 photos are the new design• The 1KW transducer is like dragging a brick through water. That's why it can be a challenge to get it to read at speed! Every setup guide tells you to "skim" the surface. But skimming puts your transducer in the worst possible water—the turbulent, aerated mess your hull creates as it slices through at speed. You lose image quality above 4 knots, fish arches disappear, and bottom definition turns to clutter. So the transducer needs to be positioned where the cleanest water is, but something is holding it back... -The plastic factory designed mounting. 4 problems. 4 design decisions. The ABYSS mount is not just another heavy duty factory replacement mount. Whilst vibration is definitely an issue with the plastic factory mounting, this alone is not a primary concern among users. Whilst this needs to be addressed, strength in the bracket alone will not get you a better read. The first and foremost concern is positioning ability. The factory design has very limited ability to position the transducer in clean water and angle adjustment is difficult, relying on wedges to change angle. Secondly, very closely behind, is the distance from the leading edge of the transducer to the transom, so the transducer needed to get as close as possible to the transom for the best results, accessing the cleanest water. We see that some other cheaper brackets on the market are simply laser cut and folded designs that certainly address the issue of reducing vibration, but we chose not to go with that design because part of the mount can still affect water surrounding the transducer. We wanted just the transducer to run through the water with nothing else to potentially create turbulence or keep turbulence close by. The third issue was depth. We found that many users weren't getting results because their boat would cause surface layer turbulence and the factory mount and other aftermarket designs could not get below the surface of this turbulent layer. The ABYSS mount can get up to 40mm deeper than the original factory mount. Other cut and folded mounts won't achieve that type of extra depth, and we didn't want to add pressure on the existing three set screws that hold the transducer to the plate — so the idea of needing to lengthen these screws wasn't ideal. The fourth consideration was the distance between transducer and transom due to the factory kick up mechanism. Having this design increases this distance to approximately 60mm plus any wedges used. This had to be removed for the transducer to get against the transom in the cleanest water. What you get with the ABYSS mount design.
