In 2024, The Moscow Times was designated an “undesirable organisation” in Russia. We chose to reinterpret the anniversary of this label as a subtle, ironic gesture — treating it as a moment of quiet humour rather than overt political commentary. To achieve this, we shifted the language from “undesirable” to desirable — a neutral word with a distinctly positive connotation. By incorporating the publication’s signature elements — its typeface, colour palette, and editorial captions — we establish a subconscious association with the brand, while deliberately avoiding the direct use of the now politically charged word “Moscow” in the visual design.
