In the mountain towns outside Taipei, the sky lantern festival is a traditional ritual where people write their private wishes, prayers, and dreams onto paper lanterns. Once lit, hundreds of these glowing lights lift into the dark sky simultaneously, turning deeply personal hopes into a massive, collective sea of light floating toward the stars. As I watched my lantern drift away, I realized that as a foreigner living there, I was the literal 'alien' on the ground. An outside observer trying to understand a culture not my own. The UFO mirrors that feeling. It sits among the lanterns. It’s a playful but sincere nod to what it means to look in from the outside, searching for a connection.
